All members of the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, African elephant, cape buffalo, and black rhinoceros) along with hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, and bat-eared foxes are found in the Maasai Mara. Hippopotami and crocodiles are found in large groups in the Mara and Talek rivers.<\/p>\n The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is a protected area and a World Heritage Site located 180 km (110 mi) west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania. The area is named after Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera within the area. Approximately 25,000 large animals, mostly ungulates, live in the crater, including the black rhinoceros, the African buffalo or Cape buffalo and the hippopotamus. There are also the blue wildebeest the Grant’s zebra, the Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles and Waterbucks.<\/p>\n The Serengeti National Park is a Tanzanian national park in the Serengeti ecosystem in the Mara and Simiyu regions.It is famous for its annual migration of over 1.5 million white-bearded (or brindled) wildebeest and 250,000 zebra and for its numerous Nile crocodile and honey badger. The park covers 14,750 square Km of grassland plains, savanna, riverine forest, and woodlands. Maasai giraffe, waterbuck, impala, warthog and hippo are aboundant. But Serengeti is also famous for the Big Five: Lions, which is believed to hold the largest population in Africa due to the abundance of prey species, African leopard, African bush elephant, eastern black rhinoceros and African buffalo: the most numerous of the Big Five. Carnivores -aside from the Big Five- include the cheetah, hyenas, jackals, African golden wolf, honey badger, serval, mongooses, otters and the recently reintroduced East African wild dog.<\/p>\n Tarangire National Park is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park. The park is famous for its high density of elephants and baobab trees. Other common resident animals include waterbuck, giraffe, dik dik, impala, eland, Grant’s gazelle, vervet monkey, banded mongoose, and olive baboon. Predators in Tarangire include lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal, honey badger, and African wild dog.<\/p>\n The Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a privately owned wildlife sanctuary in Kenya.
